Connecting is all about your friendliness, your ability to engage, and your willingness to give value first. When you combine those attributes, you will have uncovered the secret of powerful connections that lead to RICH relationships.

Everyone wants to be rich. Although most people think being rich is about having money, rich is a description for everything but money. Rich relationships lead to much more than money...they lead to success, fulfillment and wealth.

Take a moment: List your top 10 most powerful connections (the people who can make things happen, and make things happen for you). Hopefully you have that many. Then ask yourself, "What have I done for these people lately?"

REALITY QUESTIONS: Who can you count on? How many people are willing to pay you to go to lunch with them? Who is counting on you (other than your client families)?

With your Top 10 list, next to each name, write a sentence or two about how they have helped you and how you would like them to continue helping you. Under that, with a red ink pen, write about how you have helped them. AHA!!! There’s probably nothing to write about how you helped them, or at least, not enough.

When I started writing and speaking, it was never for the purpose of having people contact me. It was simply to help them...my colleagues. They contact me because they connect with me. They identify with me through my teaching and writing.

If people are not trying to connect with you, but you are trying to connect with them, this is a report card. The object: Have people contact you. Create attraction.

There is power in who you know. There is power in who knows you. Not just "connection" power but Growth Power, Success Power, Fulfillment Power.

For decades at my former funeral home, I worked on developing powerful connections. It worked for me. It will work for you. Do the exercise mentioned above. Ask your staff to do the same exercise. Gather the results and names. Give me a call. I’ll help you become rich. Let’s connect, OK?
