Planning for a Successful 2009

"Success is doing what you like to do and making a living at it." Jim Zinger

When problems or challenges come up, people often seek a "quick fix" or compound matters by setting expectations that are unattainable for themselves, co-workers or employees. Expecting overnight change or improvement is seldom realistic. Here are some smart things that successful CEO’s and managers do to stay on top of their game and to help their companies become even more successful.

  1. Make a plan. Do not try to do everything at once. You can’t move from point A to point Z by saying "abracadabra." Goals, especially lofty goals, are best attained by breaking them into manageable steps. A whole meal is not eaten at once but by one forkful at a time.
  2. Identify your strengths. Concentrating on things you haven’t accomplished draws energy away from your ultimate objective. Celebrate even small accomplishments. Doing this helps maintain positive momentum.
  3. Learn something new. Lifelong learning is a sure passport to success. No one single person knows it all. Register for a class, attend a seminar or read a business book. Invest in your staff with a company seminar.
  4. Give back. Focus on all that you have and find an outlet to share with those less fortunate. The act of giving feeds the soul, helps to keep your feet on the ground and attain more success and wealth.
  5. Surround yourself with positive people. Negative people or those without goals or vision pose a barrier to your focus and maintaining a positive attitude. Get rid of all negative influences surrounding you!
  6. Take time for yourself. Being good to yourself helps inspire and refresh your thinking and attitude. Time to relax and doing something you’ve always wanted to do nurtures the mind and body. Get a massage, play bingo, take a hike and enjoy a picnic on the trail, workout with a personal trainer are some ideas.
